See & Do
Venturing to the other side of the harbour you will find Lower Hutt.  With a meandering river dividing the valley and surrounded by hills of both sides, there is more than meets the eye to this suburban landscape.  With top mountain biking tracks, hilltop walks, The Dowse Art museums and cute cafes, there’s always something new to explore.   With many scenic reserves located minutes from the urban streets, its never been easier to immerse yourself in nature.  Check out Percy Scenic Reserve, Belmont Regional Park or take a trip up the Te Whiti riser to get a full scenic view of the valley.  Venturing round to Eastbourne and Days Bay is surely on the cards to check out the art galleries, bush walks and the iconic Pencarrow Lighthouse.

Petone is a must for anyone that loves coffee, good food and boutique fashion.  Jackson Street which is just back from the beach, is full of round the world cuisine, also is home to vintage shops and coffee roasters.  There is also a mix of specialist stores like Llamu a specialist candle store, or pick up a rare record from Lo Cost Records which has been operating in Petone for 21 years.
Eat & Drink
Wellington cities taste for good coffee oozes out to suburbs and it shows with the endless options of cafes scattered across the Hutt Valley.   It is not just the CBD that has local coffee roasters, Petone is the origin of both Ripe Coffee and Good Fortune Coffee Co, both still make their beans in Petone, and supply various cafes across the region including Origin, Small Batch for Ripe and Seashore Caberet, Miss Fortunes and Sea Salt Cafe and Eatery for Good Future Coffee Co.

Travel round to Days Bay and Eastbourne for an afternoon of good views and good food.   Check out the local institution of Chocolate Dayz Cafe for their one of a kind chocolate milkshake and the Van Helden Gallery thats tucked alongside next to it.  For a bigger meal check out The Still Room for a great platter from around the region or if you want a picnic on the beach duck into Marmalade Deli that is known for its sweet treats.
Seashore Cabaret
Located in the Petone Rowing Club.  Decorated in colour and vintage signage the cafe hosts the Petone local coffee roaster Good Fortune Coffee Co. Ltd.  With great food options for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, its a great spot for beers and shared plates to catch up with friends.  Don’t miss the famous homemade sodas and ice cream sundae creations!
Bellbird Eatery
Located in the Dowse Art Museum, Bellbird eatery offers fantastic crafted food from local and organic produce.  Popular among locals for a morning coffee and freshly baked goods, this cafe is always humming.  Their gourmet pizzas never go astray and on Friday evenings why not check out there ever changing seasonal dinner menu paired with a craft beer or wine.
Hive
Tucked away in Eastbourne is this local gem.   Open 7 days, why not pop in to check out their range of savoury and sweet food options - the coffee is also a plus!  On a stunning sunny day the patio is a great place to enjoy a drink and a treat, but never fear when Wellington’s weather isn’t cooperating there is more than enough seating to enjoy a fresh soup or their delightful Halloumi Salad.
Stay
Whether you want to camp or stay in a luxury estate with harbour views, Lower Hutt caters for all.   With several regional parks Dry Creek Valley and Belmont Regional Park are great spots to go camping.  With breathtaking waterfalls and busy-clad valleys these parks are popular among families in summer.  If you are after a more romantic getaway The Paiaka Suite is a little hideaway that is set on the cliff face of Fitzroy Bay. Enjoy panoramic views, while also being surrounded by 1000 acres of farmland, the perfect spot to crack open some champagne and experience some well deserved down time.
